Hey everyone! I’m Micah (my-kuh), the creator, developer and photographer behind Outta The Pantry

I identify as a Queer Black Latinx gardener and home chef based in the Bronx, NYC. I’ve decided to share my favorite recipes and connect with others who believe in the transformative power of food made with love and a lil bit of experimentation.
My relationship with food…
My relationship with food has been building since I can remember. Growing up in a Carribean household, I ate mostly plant-based foods rooted in Puerto Rican, Haitian, and Trinidadian cuisines. Outside of my home, the street vendors of New York exposed me to foods from all parts of the world. Every week, in my borough and beyond, I try an endless variety of fried, stuffed, pickled, and steamed foods.
As an environmental scientist, I became interested in the convoluted relationship between food production, waste, poverty and access. Having studied in Ithaca, New York, I gained hands-on experience with farm-to-table dining, agricultural unions, and locally-based produce management. At the same time, I learned that many of these environmentally conscious, seemingly sustainable projects/activities were economically, geographically, physically, and temporarily inaccessible.
Here you’ll find delicious ways to repurpose your scraps, limit your food waste and participate in closed-loop waste systems. My work here is to inspire people to view recipes as general templates that one can add to, remove from, or change in any way they see fit.
Warmly,
Outta The Pantry
